Descaler Cartridge FAQs

Polyphosphate Cartridge FAQs

Are the SpiroPure polyphosphate cartridges refillable?

No, the SpiroPure polyphosphate cartridges are not refillable. We do however, have empty refillable cartridges available for purchase.

Can SpiroPure polyphosphate filter cartridges be used for well water?

Yes, SpiroPure polyphosphate cartridges can be used with municipal city or well water.

What is the flow rate for the SpiroPure polyphosphate filter cartridges?

We do not list flow rates for SpiroPure products like our polyphosphate cartridges as actual flow rates can vary depending upon a number of individual factors including water pressure rates, water temperatures, and the amount of impurities present in the water. Similarly, how many gallons the cartridge will treat will depend on your individual situation and water conditions. In general, we recommend changing the filters every 6-12 months depending upon water quality and usage.

SP-SC Series Descaler FAQs

Can I use the descaler cartridge on a hot water line?

The SP-SC descaler cartridges have a temperature rating of 39°F - 125°F (4°C - 52°C). Anything outside of this range can affect the performance and integrity of the media and cartridge. It is generally recommended that whole-house water filters be installed at the water main before the water heater for optimal performance.

Is the hardness reduction testable with a standard hard water test kit?

No, a standard hard water test kit will not be useful for testing the effectiveness of this filter. This is because the descaler technology does not actually "soften" or remove the healthy minerals responsible for hard water (calcium and magnesium). Instead, the anti-scale beads work to transform the minerals into harmless, non-soluble micro-crystals that cannot stick to surfaces. As a result, you get the prevention of annoying and unsightly scale deposits on your plumbing fixtures, appliances, and in plumbing pipes, but without the need for electricity, messy salts, and harmful wastewater that comes with a traditional sodium water softener.

Do SpiroPure SP-SC descaler cartridges use polyphosphate media?

No, these cartridges are made with a German-made descaler technology that uses Double Layered Coated (DLC) modified ceramic beads with a catalytic conversion process that transforms the minerals responsible for hard water (magnesium and calcium) into harmless soluble micro-crystals. As a result, there is no need for phosphates, sodium, or other chemicals traditionally used for scale reduction. If you are looking for a polyphosphate cartridge, the SP-PH series cartridges are made with polyphosphate media.

What is the micron rating for the SP-SC series descaler cartridges?

SpiroPure descaler filters do not work by filtering contaminants at a certain micron rating, but rather employ cutting-edge technology to effectively reduce scale and hard water buildup by transforming the minerals responsible for hard water (calcium and magnesium) into harmless, non-soluble micro-crystals.

How do I attach the SP-SC descaler cartridge to my shower head?

The SP-SC series descaler cartridges do not hook up directly to the shower head, but are designed as a whole house filter cartridge. The SpiroPure descaler cartridge can be installed inside of a filter housing of the corresponding size, whether the housing is stand alone or a part of a whole house filter system or similar. Replacing filter cartridges in a housing is a simple process that can be completed by the homeowner. If you are in the market for a system, we recommend the SpiroPure SP-WH300 whole house water filter system.
