Spot-Free Car Wash and Water Filters FAQs

What causes water spots and streaks during and after a carwash?

The spots are mineral deposits from your city or well water. Bits of calcium, sodium, magnesium, and so forth, cake onto the car.

Are water spots dangerous to the car?

They are unsightly, and if they are left to sit, the minerals can eat through the car’s clear coat, damaging the paint.

Is soft water a solution to car wash spots?

Soft water will likely help to reduce spots, but a water softener only removes calcium and magnesium, not all TDS (total dissolved solids).

What filtration options are available for spot-free car washes?

Deionization filters, and Reverse Osmosis filtration can both produce a spot-free result.

Which system is right for me?

If you are looking for a dedicated car-washing filtration system, then a deionization filter, such as the SpiroPure SP-ID200QC should be sufficient. Reverse Osmosis will technically remove more salt, but there are disadvantages to using an RO system: they are slow, and produce a great deal of wastewater. If you want the absolutely cleanest water possible, however, then a Reverse Osmosis system, such as our SpiroPure SP-RO400AQD may be the right choice.
